UT’s **Institute for Advanced Technology (IAT)** was a separate Army-sponsored research lineage focused on hypervelocity physics, electrodynamics, pulsed power, and electromagnetic launch. It originated as an FFRDC in 1990 and subsequently operated as an Army UARC.
The supporting UARC article preserves conflicting transition dates: one Army history gives 1995, another gives 1993; FFRDC decertification is recorded in November 1993. The master addendum’s 1993 shorthand therefore should not erase the unresolved date difference.
The early UT chemical-biological countermeasures work places IAT within a wider sensor, medical-response, and communications environment. It remains distinct from Navy-sponsored [[wiki/Applied Research Laboratories at UT Austin|ARL:UT]]. Historical status should be identified by the cited period rather than assumed to continue indefinitely.
