# United States Intelligence Community **Entity class:** Federation of United States intelligence organizations **Aliases:** Intelligence Community; IC **Maturity:** Developed ## Definition The **United States Intelligence Community** is the statutory federation of executive-branch organizations and intelligence elements that collect, analyze, produce, and disseminate intelligence for national-security decision-making. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence integrates the community; it does not erase component missions or chains of command. The community has 18 elements. The IC Data Strategy 2023–2025 directs those elements toward common services and interoperable, discoverable, AI-ready data. ICD 503 supplies risk governance for the interconnected IC Information Environment. These common technical and assurance layers support federation; they do not transform the 18 elements into one agency. ## Relationships - **includes service element:** United States Army Intelligence. - **Army operational integrator:** INSCOM, whose mission supports Army, joint and coalition commands and the Intelligence Community. - **counterterrorism integrator:** National Counterterrorism Center. - **identity repository:** TIDE. - **national technical members include:** NSA, NGA, and DIA. - **domestic investigative member:** FBI. - **interagency operational nodes:** JIATF-S and JIATF-CC incorporate Intelligence Community participation without becoming the Community itself. - **entertainment-engagement law:** 50 U.S.C. § 3332. - **education and workforce study:** NDIC and Hollywood Soldier. - **human-performance architecture:** Producer Function and Performance-Labor Pathway Family. - **data and AI strategy:** AIM Initiative, IC Data Strategy 2023–2025, and AI Fusion. - **assurance architecture:** ICD 503, Machine-Readable Assurance, and Federated Trust Fabric. - **industrial membrane:** Industrial Intelligence Workforce and Operational Onboarding. - **source dossier:** The Producer Function in Intelligence Tradecraft and Dramaturgy. ## Sources / Provenance - [Office of the Director of National Intelligence — Members of the IC](https://www.dni.gov/index.php/what-we-do/members-of-the-ic) - [ODNI — IC Data Strategy 2023–2025](https://www.dni.gov/files/ODNI/documents/IC-Data-Strategy-2023-2025.pdf) ## IC / “ice” pronunciation route Spoken aloud, **IC** can sound like “ice.” In this vault it means the United States Intelligence Community.
