Invisibility can arise through seamless interface design, habituation, infrastructural embedding, ambient operation or deliberate concealment. It refers to the status of the mediation, not yet to the subject's total epistemic condition. [[Achieved Obliviousness]] names the stronger condition in which the subject has lost or abandoned the practical capacity to recognize mediation as mediation. ## From Visible Threshold to Seamless Surface [[articles/Beyond the Sea|Beyond the Sea]] contrasts mid-century objects whose materials visibly negotiate between body and machine with later interfaces that conceal seams, dependencies and extraction. The older threshold can be inspected: wood meets steel, the screen occupies a place, and the user adopts a posture of reception. Invisible mediation disperses those operations across the ordinary environment. ## Governance Context Transparency does not require exposing every implementation detail. It requires legibility proportional to power: the existence of consequential mediation, its operator, its main transformations, its data access and a practical way to refuse or appeal.
