# John Bardeen American physicist and co-inventor of the [[wiki/Transistor|transistor]] at [[wiki/Bell Labs|Bell Labs]] (1947), sharing the 1956 [[wiki/Nobel Prize|Nobel Prize]] in Physics with [[wiki/William Shockley|William Shockley]] and [[wiki/Walter Brattain|Walter Brattain]]. Bardeen is the only person to have won the Nobel Prize in Physics twice — also receiving it in 1972 for the theory of superconductivity.
