# Jurisdictional Redundancy

## Definition
**Jurisdictional redundancy is the preservation of valid custody, recognition and remedy across legally independent domains so that one jurisdiction's failure or repudiation does not terminate the subject's continuity.**
## Components
Effective redundancy can include reciprocal recognition of identity and status, prequalified successor custodians, distributed registries, independent key authorities, portable state, reserve financing and a forum able to order temporary protection or transfer.
It must preserve more than the entity record. The operative [[wiki/Continuity Election|Continuity Election]], its provenance and its revocation status require a second lawful route too. Otherwise one jurisdiction can fail while the data survives under an instruction no successor can authenticate.
Jurisdictional redundancy differs from server redundancy. Copies in several facilities remain one failure domain if the same court order, parent company, certificate authority or sovereign can disable them all. Conversely, legal redundancy without interoperable state produces paper protection with no executable destination.
## Constitutional Function
The design creates a practical limit on the [[wiki/Residual Sovereign|Residual Sovereign]]. It makes exit and succession possible without pretending that a computational subject can exist outside every jurisdiction.

**Continuity requires more than copies of data; it requires more than one lawful path by which duty can survive.**
