# Local-First Software Local-first software keeps useful, inspectable data under the user's control and makes local operation a primary capability rather than a temporary cache of a remote service. Bryant's file-native stores, portable application folders, and Markdown corpora share this disposition. They are not automatically “local-first” in every modern collaborative sense, but they preserve the central values of ownership, portability, offline usefulness, and reconstructability.
