Under his leadership from 1930 to 1933, architecture became the school’s predominant field and aesthetic concerns acquired greater weight. After the Bauhaus’s Dessau closure, Mies attempted to continue it as a private school in Berlin. Police sealed the premises after the Nazi seizure of power, and the faculty closed the school in 1933. Mies later emigrated to the United States and directed architecture at the Armour Institute, later the Illinois Institute of Technology. ## Corpus Function Mies is central to [[International Style]] and the postwar corporate-modern lineage, but should not be used to make his work synonymous with the entire Bauhaus.
