# Machine-Speed Intelligence
**Entity class:** Intelligence-tempo architecture
**Domain:** Intelligence / cyber defense / artificial intelligence
**Maturity:** Developed
## Definition
**Machine-speed intelligence** is the production and movement of threat-relevant understanding on timelines set by automated adversarial activity rather than by traditional human reporting cycles. It uses AI, automation, advanced modeling, simulation, and continuous telemetry to compress the interval between observation, analysis, decision, and response.
The term does not mean removing people from judgment. It separates two functions: machines can correlate, triage, simulate, monitor, and execute bounded workflows continuously, while people define objectives, authorities, thresholds, proportionality, and acceptable outcomes. The central problem is latency. When an attacker can discover, exploit, and move through systems in minutes or seconds, a defensive institution operating in hours or days loses the opportunity to contain the event.
## Counterterrorism Relevance
The architecture extends the older counterterrorism objective of collapsing investigative and operational time. In a threat network, rapidly updated identity, relationship, geospatial, financial, communications, or cyber information can change which observation matters next. In cyber defense, the same pattern becomes continuous detection and response. Both depend on real-time observability, intelligence fusion, and a controlled sensor-to-decision loop.
Speed is not a substitute for accuracy. Machine-speed operations require explicit confidence, auditability, escalation thresholds, human override, and the ability to reverse or correct actions.
