Water cycling becomes desalination, pumping, recovery ratios and reservoirs; waste assimilation becomes material recovery; food production moves into controlled environments; thermal comfort becomes active conditioning; and environmental stability becomes continuous sensing and computation. The name refers to the engineering condition of Mars, where every biospheric subsidy must be supplied technologically. It does **not** mean that Earth is literally losing its bulk atmosphere on a human timescale or becoming physically identical to Mars. ## Systems Boundary Marsification begins when remaining safely habitable requires infrastructure that was previously optional. A settlement can stand beneath a substantial atmosphere and still cross the boundary if acceptable water, air, temperature, food, waste processing, and environmental information can no longer be assumed without active machinery. This makes Marsification a form of [[wiki/Substrate-Relative Habitability|Substrate-Relative Habitability]]. The receiving environment is redesigned around the needs of bodies, archives, or executable minds. The term describes a systems transition visible in infrastructure and planning.
