Water cycling becomes desalination, pumping, recovery ratios and reservoirs; waste assimilation becomes material recovery; food production moves into controlled environments; thermal comfort becomes active conditioning; and environmental stability becomes continuous sensing and computation. The name refers to the engineering condition of Mars, where every biospheric subsidy must be supplied technologically. It does **not** mean that Earth is literally losing its bulk atmosphere on a human timescale or becoming physically identical to Mars. ## Systems Boundary Marsification begins when remaining safely habitable requires infrastructure that was previously optional. A settlement can stand beneath a substantial atmosphere and still cross the boundary if acceptable water, air, temperature, food, waste processing, and environmental information can no longer be assumed without active machinery. The receiving environment is redesigned around the needs of bodies, archives, or executable minds.
