# Memetic Fitness Memetic fitness is an idea's capacity to survive attention constraints, remain recognizable through repetition and variation, move between people or channels, and prompt reuse. Fitness is relational: a message may travel well in one population or moment and fail in another. Reach alone does not establish value, truth, or beneficial effect. Hostile, simplistic, or false messages can have high transmission fitness, while humane ideas may require patience and ambiguity tolerance. The Simple Reminders project asked whether constructive language could be made more transmissible without becoming manipulative or hollow.
