# Mentorship **Domain:** Learning / Leadership / Human development **Doc Type:** Canonical concept node **Maturity:** Developed ## Definition Mentorship is a developmental relationship in which experience is made available to someone with less experience through instruction, modeling, feedback, advocacy, and practical opportunity. ## Mechanism and Significance A mentor compresses part of the learner's search by identifying useful paths, foreseeable errors, and standards of practice. The learner's growth can later become service when that experience is passed onward. ## Evidence Boundary Mentorship should not become control, dependency, or permanent rank. Experience can provide a shortcut without making the mentor infallible or removing the learner's responsibility to test advice against reality. ## Relationships Leadership · Experience · Mastery · Generosity ## Simple Reminders, Quotations, and Thoughts > “People are built both to follow and to lead.
