## Definition
**Multimodal neural data** combines measurements from different neural, physiological, behavioral, imaging, or contextual sources. Examples include EEG with fNIRS, ECoG with speech audio, fMRI with task events, or neural recordings synchronized to video and physiological monitoring.
## Architectural role
Different modalities observe different aspects of a biological process at different spatial and temporal scales. Their value depends on shared identifiers, clock alignment, coordinate systems, calibration, provenance, and explicit treatment of uncertainty.
