# Neurodiversity
**Domain:** Cognition / Human Variation / Identity
**Doc Type:** Canonical concept node
**Maturity:** Developed
## Definition
Neurodiversity describes variation in human cognition, attention, perception, learning, communication, and regulation as part of the range of human minds.
## Mechanism and Significance
Different cognitive profiles distribute strengths and difficulties unevenly. A trait that creates friction in one environment can support unusual pattern recognition, focus, creativity, or competence in another.
## Evidence Boundary
Recognizing variation does not erase disability, support needs, diagnosis, or individual suffering. Strengths and impairments must be described without romanticizing either.

> “Different kinds of minds bring different strengths. A person who struggles with sequence or organization may excel at seeing patterns in complex systems. Embracing one's actual strengths and accepting one's deficits reduces shame and frees energy.”
