## Definition
**Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2)** is the U.S. Army's modernization effort to build a data-centric command-and-control architecture connecting headquarters, sensors, applications, networks, and operational units.
## Significance
NGC2 makes integration speed and data architecture part of combat power. Its relevance is not only the software purchased but the contest over who defines the common layer, how applications enter it, and whether the system can incorporate new sensors and agents without surrendering operational autonomy.
