# Open DAGIR **Expanded name:** Open Data and Applications Government-owned Interoperable Repositories **Entity class:** DoD data, analytics, and application ecosystem ## Definition **Open DAGIR** is a multi-vendor Department of Defense approach for integrating data platforms, development tools, services, and applications while preserving government data ownership and industry intellectual property. It is designed to give the government enduring access to government-owned, contractor-operated infrastructure and to make third-party capabilities easier to onboard. Its architectural move is to separate layers that a vertically integrated vendor stack might otherwise bind together. Government data rights and government-owned interfaces can remain stable while multiple vendors compete to provide repositories, deployment tooling, analytics, models, and mission applications. The objective is acquisition and integration at operational speed without making a single contractor the permanent gatekeeper to every layer. ## Importance to CJADC2 DoD designated [[wiki/CJADC2|CJADC2]] as Open DAGIR's initial major use case.
