The surveillance output ceases to be a one-way classification channel and becomes a bidirectional interface that a sufficiently informed human can address strategically. ## From Object to Participant Being legible to a system is usually treated as passive exposure. Root demonstrates that legibility can be manipulated: a subject can shape the signals through which the observer classifies and routes her. This does not equal symmetric power, because the Machine retains far greater visibility. It does show that a sensorium embedded in society becomes part of society's strategic environment. The episode foreshadows [[Human-Machine Symbiosis]] and adversarial participation. People can learn the machine's protocols, feed them signals and use the output path to reach operators.
