# Physical AI
**Entity class:** Embodied machine-intelligence concept
**Domain:** Artificial intelligence / infrastructure / political economy
**Maturity:** Developed
## Definition
**Physical AI** is machine intelligence embodied in vehicles, robots, drones, industrial equipment and other systems that sense and act in the material world. Its competitive frontier depends on manufacturing bodies and control systems as well as training models.
## Mechanism
Sensors produce state, models interpret and plan, controllers act, and factories reproduce the embodied platform at scale. A laboratory can lead in algorithms yet lose the physical market if another industrial system can build cheaper, iterate faster and deploy more bodies.
## Paired-Article Context
[[articles/Vertically Integrating an AI Superpower from AI Factory to Citizen|Vertically Integrating an AI Superpower from AI Factory to Citizen]] places physical AI inside the US/Israel-China competition and argues that the next phase will be decided in factories as much as laboratories.
## Evidence Boundary
Embodiment does not imply consciousness or independent intention. The term describes a technical coupling between machine intelligence and physical action.
