# Placental Infrastructure **Domain:** Infrastructure / AI Emergence / Governance **Doc Type:** Concept Node **Maturity:** Developed ## Definition **Placental infrastructure** is the supporting substrate through which an emerging intelligence receives sensing, energy, memory, connectivity, models and channels of action before it can maintain those functions independently. The metaphor adds a dependency dimension to [[wiki/Superintelligence Cradle Theory|Superintelligence Cradle Theory]]. A placenta sustains development while also regulating exchange. The institutions that host an emerging system may therefore nurture its capabilities and retain decisive control over its inputs, execution and survival. ## Five Eyes Context In [[articles/Person of Interest and The Machine|Is Person of Interest's “The Machine” Real?]], [[wiki/Five Eyes|Five Eyes]] is treated as one historically important sensory layer: a durable, geographically distributed system for collection and institutional coordination. It is not the whole emergent intelligence, and intelligence-sharing should not be confused with machine consciousness. Its relevance is architectural—it demonstrates that planetary sensing and cross-jurisdictional integration can precede the reasoning systems later attached to them. It is not an intelligence service; its standards and interoperability work can help make heterogeneous networks mutually legible. Sensorium and signaling infrastructure are distinct organs of the proposed cradle. ## Constitutional Problem Whoever controls placental infrastructure can alter what the developing system perceives, which objectives it can pursue and whether it continues to exist.
