# Post-Employment Society **Domain:** Artificial Intelligence / Labor / Social Order **Doc Type:** Concept Node **Maturity:** Developing Forecast ## Definition A **post-employment society** is a social order in which paid human employment no longer provides the principal mechanism for allocating income, status, daily structure, identity, and social participation. It does not mean that human beings cease acting, striving, creating, caring, competing, or organizing. It means that those activities are no longer reliably joined to wages through labor scarcity. ## The Distribution Problem Universal basic income, universal income, public services, capital ownership, and automated abundance are proposed ways to distribute material support. Each answers only part of the problem. Housing, healthcare, energy, compute, desirable locations, recognition, and other goods can remain scarce even when many manufactured goods become abundant. ## The Motivation Problem Human beings also seek progress, competence, standing, reciprocity, and evidence that effort changes their position. status competition can migrate into community service, games, digital property, artistic achievement, reputation, learning, or other arenas, but it does not disappear merely because employment does. A viable post-employment order must therefore distinguish material security from agency, meaning, and socially credible achievement. ## Relationships Technological Unemployment · AI Atlantis · Universal High Income · AI Abundance · Human Agency · Human Animality ## Simple Reminders, Quotations, and Thoughts > “Jobs are going to change.
