# Propagation Bottleneck
A propagation bottleneck is a point in a communication network where message flow is constrained by limited access, attention, trust, interoperability, moderation, or dependence on a small number of intermediaries. Bottlenecks can suppress harmful content, but they can also create fragility, censorship risk, or single points of capture.
Analysis asks what controls the bottleneck, which populations depend on it, how decisions are audited, and whether alternative routes exist. Friction introduced at a bottleneck should be proportional, transparent where possible, and evaluated for displacement effects.
