## Definition
**Psychological continuity** is continuity across time through overlapping relations of memory, intention, personality, values, commitments, agency, and self-recognition. It need not imply that every property remains unchanged.
## Neurotechnology relevance
Systems that alter memory, affect, decision-making, or self-models can affect continuity without physically destroying a person. Governance therefore must address manipulation and identity change as well as data extraction.
