# QAnon **Domain:** Networked political mythology **Doc Type:** Developed Phenomenon Node **Maturity:** Developed **Collection:** [[collections/Gamification|Gamification Collection]] ## Definition **QAnon** is a participatory conspiracy movement that formed around anonymous posts beginning on 4chan in October 2017 and expanded through collaborative interpretation, social media, influencers, and political mobilization. Its followers linked cryptic “drops” to a continually expanding narrative about secret conflict and imminent revelation. ## Ludic reading QAnon borrowed affordances familiar from ARG and game culture: breadcrumbs, collective puzzle solving, status through interpretive labor, recursive clue validation, and a fiction boundary that could absorb contradiction. Scholarship has therefore analyzed it as conspiracy fictioning or an ARG-like system. That describes its mechanics; it does not prove that QAnon was centrally authored as a game. ## Consequence boundary The ludic comparison must not trivialize real radicalization, harassment, or political violence. The movement's play-like forms produced ordinary-world relationships and actions. ## Sources - Daniël de Zeeuw and Alex Gekker, [A God-Tier LARP?
