## Definition
The **Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP)** carries timestamped media or other real-time payloads across packet networks, commonly over UDP. RTP supports sequencing and timing information but relies on surrounding protocols and system design for session negotiation, synchronization, quality monitoring, security, and recovery behavior.
## Neural-interface role
RTP can transport time-sensitive clinical streams, but packet delivery alone does not establish multimodal alignment or confidentiality. Those require shared clocks, metadata, network engineering, and external security controls.
