# Redirect Method **Domain:** Digital counter-extremism **Doc Type:** Developed Method Node **Maturity:** Developed **Collection:** Gamification Collection ## Definition The **Redirect Method** is an open methodology piloted by Jigsaw and Moonshot in 2016 that uses targeted advertising to connect people searching for harmful or violent-extremist material with alternative messages, counter-content, or services. ## Significance Redirect uses commercial ad infrastructure as an intervention layer. Search behavior defines an addressable audience; selection, message matching, click-through, and retention become measurable stages. A search cannot by itself establish intent, so efficacy and privacy claims require separate evaluation. ## Sources - European Commission RAN, [The Redirect Method](https://home-affairs.ec.europa.eu/networks/radicalisation-awareness-network-ran/collection-inspiring-practices/ran-practices/redirect-method-trm_en) - RAND, [Evaluating Online Campaigns](https://www.rand.org/pubs/research_reports/RR2813.html) ## Routes Moonshot · Audience-of-One Attack · Prevent
