# Regional Bell Operating Companies
The seven local telephone companies created by the 1984 Modified Final Judgment that broke up the AT&T Bell System: Ameritech, Bell Atlantic, BellSouth, NYNEX, Pacific Telesis, Southwestern Bell (SBC), and US West. Also known as the Baby Bells, these seven entities reconsolidated over three decades into essentially three companies: AT&T, Verizon, and Lumen Technologies. The reconsolidation is mapped in Bell Labs and the Distributed Architecture of American Power.
