It differs from ordinary telepresence because the remote body is not merely a camera or tool. It may carry appearance, touch, mobility, social identity and relationship. The body becomes an access-controlled site at which a non-local subject is treated as present. ## Layer Separation Remote embodiment separates at least five objects that conventional embodiment joins: 1. the person or acting process; 2. the receiving body; 3. the credential or authorization to enter it; 4. the communications and execution channel; and 5. the institutions maintaining the arrangement. Control of one layer cannot silently confer sovereignty over the others. Ownership of hardware does not establish ownership of the person operating through it; permission to enter a body does not confer authority over its owner's relationships or identity. ## Beyond the Sea Context In [[Black Mirror S6E3 — Beyond the Sea]], Cliff and David remain biologically in space while replicas carry their terrestrial presence.
