## Definition
**Righteous Among the Nations** is Yad Vashem's program recognizing non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust without expectation of payment or other reward. Recognition is based on documented cases reviewed under the program's criteria.
## X Ledger context
[[articles/gamification/The X Ledger|The X Ledger]] reads the program as an affirmative register of interruption: it records protective action alongside, but never in place of, the memorial record of those murdered. The distinction preserves the difference among hazard, victim, and protector.
