# SBC Communications Southwestern Bell Corporation, one of the seven [[wiki/Regional Bell Operating Companies|Baby Bells]] created in 1984. SBC absorbed [[wiki/Pacific Telesis|Pacific Telesis]] (1997) and [[wiki/Ameritech|Ameritech]] (1999), then acquired [[wiki/AT&T|AT&T]] itself in 2005 — a Baby Bell eating its parent — and took the AT&T name.
