## Definition
The **San Andreas Fault** is the principal transform boundary accommodating horizontal motion between the Pacific and North American plates in California. Its Peninsula segment ruptured during the 1906 earthquake and shapes the rift valley occupied in part by Crystal Springs Reservoir.
