A person can simultaneously be a biological organism, a cognitive process, a social identity, a participant in infrastructure and a node within planetary systems. The human-scale presentation remains real, but it is a translation layer among smaller and larger operational regimes. ## Beyond the Sea Context [[articles/Beyond the Sea|Beyond the Sea]] uses the scalar movement associated with the Eameses' _Powers of Ten_ to correct a simple elsewhere-to-here arrow. Remote presence depends on cellular bodies, replica mechanisms, communication networks, domestic relationships, institutions and orbital systems at once. Agency is neither wholly inside the visible replica nor wholly at one remote origin. ## Methodological Function Scalar nesting blocks two reductions: - **local reduction**, in which the visible body is treated as the complete person and cause; and - **remote reduction**, in which the receiving environment is treated as passive output of a deeper system.
