# Scientific Literacy **Domain:** Science / Public Understanding / Evidence **Doc Type:** Concept Node **Maturity:** Developing ## Definition **Scientific literacy** is the capacity to understand how scientific claims are formed, tested, qualified, revised, and connected to evidence. It includes enough conceptual and statistical judgment to distinguish a result from a headline, a demonstrated mechanism from a speculation, and uncertainty from ignorance. ## AI and National Capability In an AI-intensive society, scientific literacy becomes productive and civic infrastructure. Citizens need it to evaluate machine-generated explanations; institutions need it to direct accelerated discovery responsibly; and governments need it to explain why investment in computation, medicine, energy, and manufacturing can produce public benefit without promising certainty that the evidence does not support. ## Relationships Citizen AI Literacy · Genesis Mission · Medical AI · Epistemic Invariance · AI Superpower ## Simple Reminders, Quotations, and Thoughts > “Under President Trump’s leadership, the Federal Government has announced more than $5 billion for the Genesis Mission, a national effort to harness Super Intelligence to accelerate breakthroughs in science, medicine, energy, and manufacturing.” > **— The White House**, *Fact Sheet on the Era of Super Intelligence, September 2026* The Genesis Mission Will Harness Super Intelligence for National Breakthroughs by The White House > "Having a technical expert in the room as legislation is drafted makes it easier to align standards and policies with the technical reality of a fast-moving frontier.
