The mechanism is not ordinary prediction error. A representation becomes operational; its output changes access, price, visibility, employment, connection, mobility, or institutional recognition; the changed environment affects subsequent behavior; and the resulting behavior returns as evidence for the original classification. ## Governing Variable The failure is governed by **environmental authority**: how much power the representation has to shape the evidence surface from which it is later evaluated. ## Examples of the Pattern - A high-risk classification reduces opportunity, and reduced opportunity changes behavior in ways read as confirmation. - A recommender narrows exposure, and the resulting engagement is treated as an independent preference signal. - An eligibility model withholds support, and the resulting deterioration is interpreted as evidence of incapacity.
