# Sensing
## Definition
**Sensing** is the acquisition of signals from bodies, environments, devices, or infrastructure so that a system can estimate state. In the host-infrastructure corpus, the term is used only at this level of abstraction; its presence in a relationship graph does not settle philosophical identity, authorize surveillance, or establish a corporate continuity program.
