## Definition
**Space superiority** is the degree of control in the space domain that permits friendly forces to use space capabilities at a given time and place while limiting an adversary's ability to do the same. It is conditional and contested, not permanent ownership of space.
## Significance
Satellites provide observation, communication, navigation, timing, and warning to other realms. Space superiority therefore sits inside a [[wiki/Multi-Realm Continuum|multi-realm continuum]]: changes in orbital access can alter terrestrial, cyber, financial, and command environments.
