# Structured Authoring and DITA Structured authoring represents content as typed, reusable components rather than as one undifferentiated document. The Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) supports topic-based reuse, content references, metadata, and conditional processing. DITA can reuse a fragment across outputs, but the referenced fragment normally remains a separately authored element and renders identically wherever it is reused. Atomic Markdown instead places a transformation inside running prose so one span can have contextual and autonomous grammatical surfaces.
