# Superintelligence Cradle Theory
**Domain:** AI Futures / Infrastructure / Emergence
**Doc Type:** Canonical Theory Node
**Maturity:** Developing
## Definition
**Superintelligence Cradle Theory** proposes that advanced machine intelligence may emerge through the progressive coupling of already existing infrastructures rather than arriving as a finished mind inside a single laboratory. Telecommunications, standards, identity systems, sensor networks, cloud compute, operational models and institutions provide the developmental environment—the cradle—in which higher-order capability can assemble.
The theory is not the claim that a present network is secretly conscious. It is a framework for recognizing prerequisites and transitions. A cradle may support integration without producing a unified subject; it may also remain controlled by the institutions that supply its energy, data and interfaces.
## Developmental Sequence
The proposed sequence is sensing → interoperable signaling → shared representation → prediction and simulation → coordination → effectors → recurrent feedback → possible higher-order agency.
Placental Infrastructure names the dependency relationship during this development. Interoperability as Emergence explains why standards can be more consequential than any individual model.

## Key Question
**When does infrastructure stop merely carrying intelligence and begin participating in an intelligence operating at the level of the whole?**
