# Synthetic Descent **Domain:** Computational Genealogy / Personhood **Synthetic Descent** is a lineage relationship in which a computational subject inherits identity-relevant state or structure from one or more predecessors without being numerically identical to them. It provides a vocabulary for informational parentage that avoids reducing a descendant to property, copy or accidental by-product. MIST is _Pantheon_'s principal case. Her origin includes remnants connected to David and Laurie, but her trajectory, relationships and judgments become her own. Provenance explains how she came to exist; it does not exhaust who she becomes. The distinction mirrors biological descent: inheritance can be causally decisive without collapsing child into parent. Synthetic descent also supplies a safer alternative to false continuity claims. When the evidence cannot establish restoration of a particular predecessor, a system may still be recognized as a legitimate descendant with its own standing and inherited obligations.
