## Definition
The **Synthetic Training Environment (STE)** is the U.S. Army's effort to create a converged, data-driven training environment linking live, virtual, constructive, and gaming capabilities across locations and echelons.
## Significance
STE extends the lineage from [[wiki/SIMNET|SIMNET]] toward persistent, scalable rehearsal built from shared terrain, data, standards, and interfaces. It exemplifies arena-building as an institutional capability: the training world is maintained, updated, distributed, and connected to operational learning rather than treated as a single device.
