# TEMPEST
A U.S. government specification and NATO certification for protection against compromising electromagnetic emanations from electronic equipment. The TEMPEST program's origins trace to classified research at [[wiki/Bell Labs|Bell Labs]], which discovered that electronic equipment could inadvertently radiate signals that could be intercepted and decoded — a vulnerability that demanded an entirely new discipline of emissions security.
