## Definition
**Telecommunications infrastructure** is the physical and logical system of transmission media, switching, addressing, protocols, maintenance and institutions that carries communication across distance.

The infrastructure governs reachability, capacity, latency, identity, route diversity and continuity. Fiber, radio, towers, rights-of-way, exchanges, landing stations, data centers, control systems and operating organizations form one service architecture.
