The **Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC)** supplies high-performance computation, storage, visualization, and research cyberinfrastructure at UT Austin. Its institutional development is closely connected to Oden’s computational-science lineage: Oden’s history identifies a 1999 computing proposal as a precursor to TACC’s creation in 2001.
In the Austin cluster, TACC is the runtime for computationally demanding inference. PECOS uses large-scale computing for predictive simulations; Meyers Lab used TACC in research whose influenza-forecasting methods entered DTRA’s Biosurveillance Ecosystem. The documented transfer concerns those methods and their research computation, rather than an assumption that all BSVE operations ran at TACC.
During COVID-19, TACC became an operating component of the UT COVID-19 Modeling Consortium. It supplied computation, data services, visualization, technical staff, and public dashboards for real-time surveillance and forecasting. In that chain, Meyers Lab supplied epidemic models; Dell Medical School supplied clinical and population-health interpretation; Austin Public Health and City of Austin supplied local data, authority, and decisions; and TACC made repeated high-volume computation and operational presentation possible.
Horizon extends the hardware lineage beyond Frontera toward large scientific and AI workloads. More compute can support ensembles, repeated inverse solutions, uncertainty propagation, learned surrogate models, and persistent twin updates. Hardware capacity leaves model accuracy or real-time performance for a particular application unresolved.
The succession reading concerns the material conditions for persistent computational process: energy, cooling, memory, storage, networks, and usable scientific software. TACC’s relationship to Oden connects mathematical demand to the infrastructure that makes more ambitious representations executable.
## Texas biome position
Pax Silica's Crown Jewel routes TACC into the UT Austin branch of the Texas computational-civic biome. TACC is the scientific-compute layer connecting Oden and PECOS methods to large executable workloads and the region's wider research capacity. This is a regional architecture link; it does not claim that TACC operates Stargate facilities or that those systems share governance.
