This asymmetry is not merely informational but ontological: the magician's knowledge is power. The magician knows the world is designed and choice is constrained; inhabitants do not have this knowledge. This gap in knowledge creates the space for absolute governance—the magician can allow inhabitants to believe they are free because he knows the boundaries of that freedom. The magician's power is the power of illusion maintained through comprehensive epistemic dominance. --- ## General Context The Magician concept emerges from epistemology and the philosophy of knowledge asymmetry—the recognition that power derives not from force but from information differentials. This knowledge is not content to be discovered but structure to be hidden. The magician's power lies precisely in keeping the knowledge hidden while maintaining the illusion of mystery.
