# Threat Modeling
**Domain:** Cybersecurity / Risk Analysis / System Design
**Doc Type:** Canonical Practice Node
**Maturity:** Foundational
## Definition
**Threat modeling** identifies valuable assets, likely adversaries, possible attack paths, trust boundaries, consequences and available mitigations before or during system design and response.
## Key Principle
Risk depends on capability, intent, access and exposure rather than on social rank alone. A person with unusual access, relationships, reach or information may present a high-value target even without formal office.
