# Tournament Republic
**Domain:** Political culture / Gamification
**Doc Type:** Developed Wiki Node

## Definition
The **Tournament Republic** is the article's name for an American polity unusually capable of organizing public life through leagues, brackets, rankings, trials, playoffs, contests, and instrumented arenas. It describes a cultural and institutional capacity, not a claim that every American institution is literally a game.
## Significance
The tournament form makes conflict visible, bounded, measurable, repeatable, and narratable. Its constructive potential is to substitute contest for bloodshed and to make rules reviewable; its danger is allowing scoring systems to colonize necessities, identity, or citizenship. The constitutional question is always who writes the rules and whether participants can contest the map.
