## Definition
**Tractography** estimates large-scale white-matter pathways from diffusion-weighted imaging. It produces model-dependent streamline reconstructions rather than direct microscopic observations of every axon.
## Architectural role
Tractography supplies macro-pathway priors that can guide graph construction and regional hypotheses. Those priors should remain route-conditional and uncertainty-aware because acquisition, modeling, crossing fibers, and parameter choices can create false positives and false negatives.
