# Tractography **Domain:** Neuroimaging / Connectomics **Doc Type:** Scientific Method Node **Maturity:** Established with Interpretive Limits **Related:** [[Connectomics]], [[Neural Mapping]], [[Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging]] --- ## Definition **Tractography** estimates large-scale white-matter pathways from diffusion-weighted imaging. It produces model-dependent streamline reconstructions rather than direct microscopic observations of every axon. ## Architectural role Tractography supplies macro-pathway priors that can guide graph construction and regional hypotheses. Those priors should remain route-conditional and uncertainty-aware because acquisition, modeling, crossing fibers, and parameter choices can create false positives and false negatives.
