# Trusted Neural Baseline **Entity class:** Recovery-state concept ## Definition A **trusted neural baseline** is an authorized and clinically defensible reference state used to evaluate whether a neural interface and its biological endpoint have remained within acceptable operating bounds or have returned to them after malfunction or attack. It is not necessarily a single frozen pattern. It can be a versioned range of device configurations, physiological responses, patient-specific parameters, model states, and safety constraints whose provenance is known. ## Relationships - **incident response:** Neural Incident Response. - **recovery:** Verified Neural Restoration. - **estimation:** Human-Machine State Estimation. - **integrity:** Neural Integrity. ## Sources / Provenance - U.S. Food and Drug Administration, [Cybersecurity in Medical Devices FAQ](https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/digital-health-center-excellence/cybersecurity-medical-devices-frequently-asked-questions-faqs), lifecycle patching and remediation requirements, accessed 2026-09-23. - Xinyu Jiang et al., [“Cybersecurity in neural interfaces”](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37883851/), 2023. **As of:** 2026-09-23
