## Definition
**UAV operator selection** is the assessment process used to identify candidates for remotely piloted aircraft roles. Research has evaluated cognitive aptitude, psychomotor skill, vigilance, spatial processing, multitasking, personality, and other predictors against training or job performance.
## Significance
Selection makes the bidirectional gaming membrane testable. A game-like interface or task may be used as an assessment instrument without turning the job into a game; recreational gaming experience may be relevant without being sufficient; and an esports community may be a recruiting pool without serving as the selection system.
The institutional stakes are higher than leaderboard performance. Validity, job relevance, adverse impact, training opportunity, and false-negative or false-positive costs determine whether a measure is defensible.
