# White Cell
**Entity class:** Exercise-control function
**Domain:** Military training / scenario design
## Definition
A **white cell** is an exercise-control element that builds and manages the scenario around participants. Depending on the exercise it may script events, write injects, brief and update role players, coordinate observer-controllers, manage notional organizations and media, and protect continuity across the training environment.
In the dramaturgical homology, the white cell combines elements of showrunner, writers' room, casting office, stage management, and continuity department.
